Privacy Policy

What we collect, and why
Account identifiers
The email address or phone number you sign up with, and your login sessions.
Why: To create and secure your account, sign you in, and reach you about your account.
Profile information
Your name, birthdate, gender, bio, prompt answers, occupation, faith, lifestyle answers, interests, and dating preferences.
Why: To build your profile, and to find and rank compatible introductions for you and for other members.
Photos and media
The photos and, where you choose to add one, the video intro you upload to your profile.
Why: To show your profile to other members. Every photo and video is reviewed before it can be seen by others.
Approximate location
The city, state, and country you tell us — Date9ja does not collect your device's precise GPS location.
Why: To show you people near you and to display your general location on your profile.
Likes and matches
Who you express interest in, who expresses interest in you, and the resulting matches.
Why: To run the core matching feature and to show you your Likes and Matches.
Messages
The content and timestamps of messages you send in a conversation with a match.
Why: To deliver your conversation. Message content is never sold or shared with advertisers, and is excluded from analytics and from any data export you request.
Reports and safety information
Reports you submit about another member, blocks you place, and the reason you give.
Why: To review safety concerns, protect members, and take moderation action where warranted.
RealMe verification information
If you choose to complete a RealMe check: a selfie, a short liveness video, and/or a government ID image, plus the reviewer's decision.
Why: To confirm you are a real person and, where you submit a government ID, that your claimed identity is genuine. Verification evidence is reviewed by a trained human moderator and is never shown to other members — only the resulting pass/fail badge is.
Security and session information
Device/browser type, IP address, and a log of security-relevant account events (sign-ins, password/email/phone changes, session revocations).
Why: To keep your account secure, let you review and revoke your own active sessions, and detect suspicious activity.
Notifications
Your push/email notification preferences and the notifications we've sent you.
Why: To let you control how Date9ja contacts you, and to show your notification history in-app.
Service providers
Data is processed on our behalf by the infrastructure providers that host, store, and deliver the service (for example, cloud hosting and file storage).
Why: [UNDER LEGAL REVIEW] Named list of current sub-processors and their roles, for publication here.
What we don't do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not show your messages, RealMe verification evidence, or exact contact details to other members. We do not send message content, profile bios, precise location, or identity-verification evidence to analytics or advertising tools.
Who can see what
Other members can see the profile information and photos you choose to publish, your approximate location, your RealMe badge (a simple verified/not-verified signal, never the underlying evidence), and messages within a shared conversation. Blocked members cannot see your profile or contact you.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you close your account, your profile is removed from discovery immediately and your media is queued for deletion.
- [UNDER LEGAL REVIEW] Exact retention period for closed-account data, security logs, and safety-report records after account closure.
Your choices
You can review and revoke your own active sessions, change your password/email/phone, pause or close your account, and download a copy of your own data — all from Settings. You can also hide your profile from discovery entirely from Settings → Privacy.
Cross-border transfers
- [UNDER LEGAL REVIEW] Where data is hosted/processed and what safeguards apply to any cross-border transfer.
Children
Date9ja is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone below the eligibility age in our Terms of Service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Date9ja's features change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
