Terms of Service

Date9ja is a matchmaking and dating service for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. You create a profile, browse and receive introductions to other members, express interest, message people you match with, and manage your own safety and privacy settings.

Some features described on Date9ja's marketing pages (for example, live video rooms and paid membership tiers) are not live yet. A feature is only available to you if it actually appears and works inside the product — a marketing description is not a promise that a feature is active today.

Date9ja is for adults seeking a relationship. You must be able to form a binding contract under the law that applies to you to create an account.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure. One person may hold one account; accounts may not be shared, sold, or transferred.

Date9ja verifies your email or phone number, and offers optional identity checks ("RealMe": selfie, video, and government ID, reviewed by a human moderator) that other members can see the result of. Completing RealMe is never required to browse Date9ja, though some interactions (like messaging) may require completing at least one qualifying check.

Date9ja exists to help people meet in good faith. The following are never acceptable, and may result in content removal, account suspension, or account closure:

• Misrepresenting your identity, age, marital status, or intentions
• Harassment, threats, hate speech, or abusive behavior toward another member
• Soliciting money, gifts, cryptocurrency, or financial information from another member — a common scam pattern
• Sharing another member's photos, messages, or personal information outside Date9ja without their consent
• Uploading content that is sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise unlawful
• Using Date9ja for advertising, recruitment, surveys, or any purpose other than genuine dating and matchmaking
• Attempting to circumvent Date9ja's moderation, verification, blocking, or reporting systems

You can block or report another member directly from their profile or a conversation. Reports are reviewed as part of Date9ja's trust and safety process. Date9ja may remove content, restrict, suspend, or close an account that violates these terms, with or without prior notice, at its discretion.

Meeting someone in person is always your own decision and at your own risk. Date9ja's identity checks and Trust Score are signals to help you make that decision — they are not a guarantee of another person's identity, intentions, or safety. See our Safety guide for practical precautions.

You keep ownership of the photos, videos, bio, and other content you post. By posting it, you grant Date9ja the license needed to store, display, and process it in order to operate the service for you and the members you interact with (for example, showing your profile photo to people you're matched with).

Do not post content you don't have the right to share, or that identifies someone else without their consent.

Date9ja's membership plans and pricing shown in the product are illustrative until billing is live — no payment is currently collected through the app. When paid membership launches, its own terms (billing cycle, cancellation, and refund policy) will be presented before you pay for anything.

You can pause (deactivate) or permanently close your account at any time from Settings → Account. Closing your account removes your profile from discovery, ends your matches, and enqueues deletion of your media. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data after closure.

Date9ja is provided "as is." We do not guarantee that you will find a match, that another member's profile is accurate, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

We may update these terms as Date9ja's features change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page; continued use of Date9ja after a change means you accept the updated terms.
